PDC 154 and Less is More 90

Well! It's been a while.

I wanted to play along with the third anniversary challenge at Play Date Cafe.  The color combo was tricky and I had a hard time pinpointing the colors of flame, grape, and mulberry.  I found a few that worked for me and used my favorite SU French foliage leaf.  Again.  I know!  I love this leaf.

This is also my entry for Less is More 90, with the theme of autumn.  I stamped a background of leaves across the main panel.  I really like the unexpected pop of purple in the leaves.  I hope it's not too busy for Less is More.  Fingers crossed. :)  Also, my white space is not white.  I rarely use a colored card base, but I like it on this card.

Thanks for dropping in.  I'm slowly working on getting caught up on my commenting.  Life has been crazy.

PDCC 151

Last night I was inspired by the gorgeous colors of PlayDate Cafe 151.  I used SU French Foliage.  I think this leaf is one of the most beautiful leaf images out there.  Just sayin'.

I used VersaMagic chalk inks and finished it off with a bit of matching ribbon. The main panel is popped up on foam tape.  Sentiment is PTI lovely layers.

Cattails

The cue this week for CASology # 5 is "pond."  I don't have a lot of stamps with pond images, but my Wplus9 Guiding Light set has two cattail images.  I combined the larger of the cattail images with the gorgeous colors of Play Date Cafe 144.  I suppose blue and green would have made more sense, but I rather liked the idea of using pink, orange, and yellow instead. :)

I inked a square acrylic block with Memento dandelion, tangelo, and rosebud.  I spritzed it with water and then inked directly onto the card base.   I stamped the cattail and sentiment in Memento rich cocoa.

It's addicting to make these ink splodges, for lack of a better word, as you never know exactly how they will turn out.  Each one is slightly different.  My favorite is the first one that I have matted white on white.

Thanks for visiting!

PDCC 143

Just popping in with a last-minute entry into PDCC 143.  The beautiful color scheme was just the push I needed to make a Christmas card.  Last year at this time I had made lots; this year I have a grand total of three!

I used scraps from my scrap box for the three colors of cherry, mint julep, and jade.  The flower is a PTI die, the leaves are a Sizzix die, and the scalloped border is a Fiskars edge punch.  The sentiment is  Hero Arts stamped in Color Box frost white.

Thanks for dropping by!

PDCC141 and RetroSketches 20

I was quite taken with sketch 20 at RetroSketches this week.  It had a lot of white space, which I love, but also a lot of elements to put together, which scared me. :)  I determined last night to give it a go, and I chose to use the lovely, soft colors of PlayDate Cafe 141.

This is what I ended up with:

Unfortunately for me, when I went to post my card, the challenge at RetroSketches had already closed.  Oops.  Oh well.  I'm still fairly pleased with the result and all those elements really gave my brain a creative workout. :)

Supplies:
Paper: PTI white
Stamps: PTI happy hexagons, mega mixed messages
Ink: Memento cantaloupe, Versamagic pink grapefruit,
Other: hemp cord, corner rounder, Cuttlebug embossing folder, flowers by Recollections

Play Date Cafe 136 & Card Patterns 170

Last night I made two cards using the beautiful colors of PlayDate Cafe 136.  The first card is a CASE of this beautiful card by Heather Nichols, and the second card uses this week's sketch from CardPatterns.  I've used a Martha Stewart butterfly set called doily lace butterflies.

Thanks for your visit today.

PDCC 107

This is my second post on this rainy Saturday, which is unusual for me.  However, my husband announced that he was taking our daughters out to the movies.  Going to the movies is a special treat around here, so you can be sure our girls were literally jumping with excitement.

I spent my time making this card for the Play Date Cafe Color Splash Challenge - white, black, and a splash of orange.  I recently picked up these gorgeous paper flowers by Recollections, and I knew I wanted to use them.  I had originally intended to do some stamping on the bottom portion of the card using PTI Damask Designs, but it was just too busy for my liking.  Instead I used an embossed panel to add texture but leave the focus on the flowers.  I added ribbon, a sentiment, and tucked in a few leafy bits from a Sizzix branch die.

Supplies:
Paper: PTI white
Stamp: PTI damask designs sentiment
Ink: Brilliance graphite black
Others: Cuttlebug Morrocan screen EF, ribbon from stash, Sizzix branch die, Recollections flowers

PDCC100

The color challenge ending soon at PlayDate Cafe is yellow, orange, and green. I wanted to use these colors to make a sunflower card for my husband's grandmother's birthday. I always think of bright yellow when I think of her.

I used PTI simple sunflower, which I love. I inked the flower with yellow and then rock-n-rolled in orange. I masked the large flower before stamping the smaller one. Then I masked them both and stamped the leaves in green.

I wasn't thrilled with the vertical orientation of the card, so I made another one using a horizontal orientation. On this card I used brown for the flower centers, fussy cut them out, and popped them up on dimensionals. I like this one much better!

Supplies:
Paper: PTI
Stamps: PTI simple sunflower, PTI sentiments
Ink: Brilliance sunflower yellow, pearlescent rust, pearlescent ivy

PDCC96 and CPS 233

Today has been one of those leisurely days at our house where everyone is occupied and happy. That means I've had a little bit of time to be crafty during daylight hours, which is a change for me! For this card, I combined the sketch at Card Positioning Systems with the colors at Play Date Cafe.

For the focal point I used some flowers by Recollections that I picked up at Michaels. I used a Sizzix leaf die cut for the two elements on either side of the flower and a Nestie as the square background element. I couldn't decide if I wanted a sentiment or not, so I tried it both ways. I'm still undecided, although I'm leaning toward the card with the sentiment. :)

Supplies:
Paper: PTI vintage cream, green from stash
Stamps: PTI sentiment
Ink: Versamagic gingerbread
Others: Recollections flower, button from stash, Sizzix die

Less is More and Play Date Cafe

Talk about just squeaking in! With five minutes to go, here is my entry for the Play Date Cafe color challenge: black and white and one other color (just a splash). This is my first time playing along.

It is also my entry for this week's Less is More challenge, which is to use ribbon or buttons. Nothing new or original here, but it is the first time I've done this kind of ribbon treatment, and I quite like it! I also have a button card in the works, so hopefully I'll be back with another card tomorrow.

Supplies:
Paper: PTI
Ink: Brililance graphite black, Memento rosebud
Stamps: PTI fillable frames
Other: PTI die, cuttlebug embossing folder, ribbon from stash
