<br />
I couldn't miss this week's <a href="http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2013/02/happy-2nd-birthday-less-is-more.html">LIM challenge</a> to use kraft and cream, as they are celebrating their second anniversary as a challenge blog. I'm just squeaking in at the last hour. :) Less is More was one of the first challenges (along with One-Layer Wednesdays) that I participated in, and it continues to be my favorite.<br />
<br />
I've made three cards this week using Hero Arts dogwood. This is a very large stamp so it was tricky to create cards with white space, but I had it in my mind that I wanted to use this stamp with a kraft-colored ink on cream cardstock, and I wasn't going to do anything else!<br />

<br />
I've used my last sheets of PTI vintage cream cardstock on these cards, and am now left with just bits and pieces in my scrap box. Ink is VersaMagic Sahara Sand and Wheat.<br />

Thanks for looking. Happy Birthday, LIM, and here's to many more! <br />

I've seen this challenge on other blogs and often thought I should try it. Most of the time I'm a terribly slow crafter, so this was a real challenge for me.<br />
<br />
I pulled out the inks, stamps, and paper I wanted to use and set the stopwatch. I used craft punches for the flowers rather than my Cuttlebug to save time. I was almost finished when I decided it needed to be cut and mounted on a blank card base and that it needed pearls. I trimmed the panel, rounded the corners, dug out my pearls, stuck them on, and mounted the panel on the card base. Time: 8 minutes 32 seconds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9H0fyH_mc3I/UP223aP_qXI/AAAAAAAAKjM/DqMI6u-3jMY/s1600/P1120074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9H0fyH_mc3I/UP223aP_qXI/AAAAAAAAKjM/DqMI6u-3jMY/s320/P1120074.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After making it I thought perhaps it would have looked better rotated the other direction. So I set the stop watch again and made a second card. This one went faster as I knew what I was doing. Time: 7 minutes 6 seconds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gpTFXbXvpzo/UP2222U4duI/AAAAAAAAKjE/Ks1d0etYKbw/s1600/P1120072.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gpTFXbXvpzo/UP2222U4duI/AAAAAAAAKjE/Ks1d0etYKbw/s320/P1120072.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
This was fun. I didn't race around like a madwoman, either, which surprised me because I usually do race around like a madwoman. I forced myself to take my time and just see what happened. I'll definitely try this again. :)<br />

I used the same floral image from Inkadinkado meadow flowers on both cards, but changed the shades of blue for a different look and feel. On the first I used deeper blues and sponging for a sympathy card. This was my second go round. If I did it over I would stamp the flowers slightly lower. <br />

This card has me thinking about spring, even though the temperatures have been freezing recently. Sadly, I didn't plant any tulips this year. I'll be regretting that come springtime. I used the pretty tulips in PTI floral fusion #11 for this card, along with Memento bamboo leaves and cantaloupe. I really like these colors together.<br />

<br />
I'm also popping in today to say happy anniversary to <a href="http://www.djkardkreations.com/2013/01/happy-wedding-anniversary-mister.html">Darnell and Mister</a>, who are celebrating 42 years today. Darnell's posts are such a joy to read. They are full of humor, zest, and kindness. What a fabulous lady! I don't care much for my card , but I'm out of time today and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to send anniversary wishes to Darnell and her Mister.<br />

<a href="http://ardythpr.blogspot.com/2013/01/happy-anniversarydarnell-and-kevin.html">Ardyth </a>and Darnell have asked us to share our own wedding pictures, so I snapped a quick picture of one of our photos. In July we will celebrate 16 years of marriage. Last week I was driving home with my 7-year old when she asked me, "How did you know Daddy was the person you should marry?" We talked about that for a while and at the end of our conversation she said, "I think you picked the right daddy for me." Phew! I'm glad she approves.<br />

The challenge is a one-layer card with a sports or exercise theme. I couldn't think of a single sports or exercise image in my collection besides a bicycle. However, I do have a little set from Amuse called sports words. It has a single star image and a variety of sports-related sentiments such as <i>go team, way to go</i>, and <i>super star</i>.<br />
<br />
I made two small notecards. For the first card I repeated one sentiment (Way to go!) several times creating three lines of text across the card. On the second card I lined up three different sentiments to create my lines of text. Using a gridded block made pretty quick work of this. I stamped the star image in Memento cantaloupe, which I love.<br />

<br />
It just so happens that my soon to be 11-year old daughter is playing basketball this winter for the first time ever, so one of these cards will be for her. I think it can be scary to try something new, especially as one gets older. We're proud of her for stretching herself quite a bit with this. Most of the girls on her team were new, too, so she didn't feel way behind. Unfortunately, though, they're playing some very experienced teams. They had their first game last Saturday and they lost big time, as in 64-4! They sure learned a lot, though. :)<br />

It was a perfect excuse to pull out PTI wise owl, a set I picked up on eBay along with another set, but hadn't used. I've been ambivalent about wise owl, but once I started stamping and cutting owls using bits of patterned paper from my scrap bin, I was hooked. I think they're cute! I finished the invitations and made a bunch more owls just for fun before cleaning up the scraps and putting the set away. <br />
<br />
When I saw <a href="http://casethissketch.blogspot.com/2013/01/case-this-sketch-challenge-10.html">sketch 10 from CAS(E) this Sketch</a>, I knew it would be perfect for some of my owls. I made one very simple, almost one-layer card. The owls are perched on the branch from PTI out on a limb. The other card has a couple of layers on it and the owls are perched on a Memory Box branch die. The brown and purple owls were my daughter's favorites, so this will be her birthday card. I'm partial toward the simpler card with the green and blue owls.<br />

I'll share my cards and invitations over at <a href="http://pixiescraftyworkshop.blogspot.com/2013/01/pixies-crafty-snippets-week-55.html">Pixie's Crafty Snippets</a> this week, as well, since I certainly made use of a multitude of bits and pieces from my scrap box. Each invitation uses different patterned papers (the four below are my favorites from the bunch). I missed a lot of the challenges in December, and am determined to do better in January! The theme is black and white with a touch of another color.<br />
<br />
For my first card I stamped a flower from Hero Arts lotus leaves in Memento tuxedo black ink. I matted the panel with a scrap of black paper and added a satiny ribbon in a beautiful maroon for my splash of color. I finished it off with a sentiment from PTI communique curves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRWSWgy66gU/UOsBTRyKydI/AAAAAAAAKcw/28M8vhDdlCs/s1600/P1110899.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRWSWgy66gU/UOsBTRyKydI/AAAAAAAAKcw/28M8vhDdlCs/s320/P1110899.JPG" width="250" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2n0rCA6HV_A/UOsBS5dtozI/AAAAAAAAKck/SVBVmo85ElM/s1600/P1110902.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2n0rCA6HV_A/UOsBS5dtozI/AAAAAAAAKck/SVBVmo85ElM/s320/P1110902.JPG" width="253" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm not as happy with my second card. It was getting late and I rushed to finish. I'll probably go back and rework this at some point. Flowers from PTI floral frenzy are stamped on a die from Sizzlits decorative label set #4. I added yellow flower centers and yellow brads for my touch of color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It's been nearly a month since I've posted or made a card. I've been enjoying my family and the Christmas holidays and taking a bit of a break from blogland. The other night, however, I pulled out my supplies and started creating again.<br />
<br />
I made two cards for the <a href="http://casology.blogspot.com/2013/01/week-25-new.html">CASology challenge 'New.'</a> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KF24bR4AOCs/UOiAiLIDO0I/AAAAAAAAKcQ/kOS_Yvn0m4w/s1600/P1110734.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KF24bR4AOCs/UOiAiLIDO0I/AAAAAAAAKcQ/kOS_Yvn0m4w/s320/P1110734.JPG" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
The first is a new baby card. I stamped the PTI banner in blue, green, and purple to make a baby bunting. I also used my new twine from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/98894915/bakers-twine-22-color-sampler?ga_search_query=twine">Lily Belle's Paperie</a> on Etsy. I had a stamp with the word baby in it that fit the circle tag, but it didn't <i>fit</i>, if you know what I mean. Instead I used this tiny Joy sentiment from PTI Mega Mixed Messages. It looked better in the circle , and I decided that 'joy' is the perfect word for new babies. Sleepless nights, dirty diapers, colic . . . and <i>joy</i>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CxIF0OBp3tk/UOiAhwExxPI/AAAAAAAAKcM/SKECIvKx454/s1600/P1110728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CxIF0OBp3tk/UOiAhwExxPI/AAAAAAAAKcM/SKECIvKx454/s320/P1110728.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the second card I participated in a new to me challenge, <a href="http://www.freshlymadesketches.blogspot.com/2013/01/freshly-made-sketches-67-sketch-by.html">Freshly Made Sketches</a>. As this is the 67th challenge, it's obviously not new to the world, but it's the first time I've ever participated in it so it's new to me. :) I used Wplus9 Mother's Day Bouquet for the flowers and added a sentiment from PTI Mega Mixed Messages. Again I used my new twine. I love that sampler pack with so many beautiful colors. <br />
<br />
We were going to drive up into the mountains today to go snowshoeing, but when I checked the weather conditions it said it was 28 degrees and gusting up to 38 miles per hour. I don't think our girls would enjoy snowshoeing into a freezing wind! So instead, we'll be "taking down Christmas" and then I'll enjoy catching up on all of your lovely blogs.<br />
<br />
Thanks for your visit! <br />

I think it was pure brilliance to use PTI Mehndi Medallion to create a wreath. Not having any wreath stamps, I knew I would have to try this.<br />
<br />
It took some fiddling to find a good mask, but the end result was worth it. I'm so pleased with these cards. The first is a one-layer card with some added bling and a ribbon bow. On the second card I cut the wreath using my circle Nesties and left the small die in place while I stamped the wreath.. I placed it on white cardstock embossed with a PTI linen impression plate and finally on a red card base. Sentiment is from Penny Black Hanging Treasures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-giO4vjcfX2s/UMgYIekofLI/AAAAAAAAKP0/qaJWoLLvLWk/s1600/P1110475.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-giO4vjcfX2s/UMgYIekofLI/AAAAAAAAKP0/qaJWoLLvLWk/s320/P1110475.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ut7MTfeDGHM/UMgYIxi9HPI/AAAAAAAAKP8/8tca2ps8b0E/s1600/P1110478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ut7MTfeDGHM/UMgYIxi9HPI/AAAAAAAAKP8/8tca2ps8b0E/s320/P1110478.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
My Memento cottage ivy ink worked well for this image. It seems to be the larger stamps with more surface area where I'm having difficulty with it. At any rate, paired with Stazon blazing red, I got the classic red and green Christmas colors that I've been looking for. <br />
<br />
Enjoy your day!<br />

I had a lot of ideas for this one and was able to make several cards last night.<br />
<br />
I started by using the monochromatic pinks from <a href="http://thedynamicduoschallenge.blogspot.com/2012/12/dynamic-duos-32-monochromatic-pinks.html">Dynamic Duos</a>. I used a small snowflake stamp from Hero Arts Swirl Christmas and stamped two rows of snowflakes. My gridded block made easy work of lining up these little snowflakes. I added a bit of bling to the center of each snowflake, a simple sentiment, a some twine at the top to finish it off. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yXbqmqIlVKM/UMToluoWcNI/AAAAAAAAKL8/_VPx5OuxH4w/s1600/P1110448.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yXbqmqIlVKM/UMToluoWcNI/AAAAAAAAKL8/_VPx5OuxH4w/s320/P1110448.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This card uses a penguin from an Inkadinkado set. I was on my last bit of bright pink twine and didn't have enough for a bow. So sad. I think I'm going to have to rework this card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DVnsHWIYuho/UMTomG6RIkI/AAAAAAAAKME/JtKLXFVBH2I/s1600/P1110452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DVnsHWIYuho/UMTomG6RIkI/AAAAAAAAKME/JtKLXFVBH2I/s320/P1110452.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I pulled out a stamp I've had for years from Rubber Soul. We used to have a Rubber Soul store in the small town next to ours but they've been gone for a few years now. :( This is an individual image that I stamped three times in a row before adding tiny bows. On the first card I imagine they are bunches of lavender and on the second card bunches of wheat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kRK7DcnfoZM/UMTolQe5WaI/AAAAAAAAKL0/ELX2OjMvrAs/s1600/P1110444.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kRK7DcnfoZM/UMTolQe5WaI/AAAAAAAAKL0/ELX2OjMvrAs/s320/P1110444.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PF6dW-j_KQ4/UMTomv3OTBI/AAAAAAAAKMM/TWkRGlw--JU/s1600/P1110467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PF6dW-j_KQ4/UMTomv3OTBI/AAAAAAAAKMM/TWkRGlw--JU/s320/P1110467.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a final card that is not one layer, but I wanted to see the image matted with a coordinating cardstock. In the photo the purples look different, but in real life they match and look quite nice, I think.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q8PktYLrSsI/UMTooCWk_3I/AAAAAAAAKMc/SbQmGJszu0s/s1600/P1110472.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q8PktYLrSsI/UMTooCWk_3I/AAAAAAAAKMc/SbQmGJszu0s/s320/P1110472.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had more ideas but I must get on with cleaning house so we can decorate our tree this afternoon!<br />
<br />
Thanks for visiting!<br />

I haven't had a lot of crafty time lately, but I do need to get my Christmas cards finished.<br />
<br />
I used several challenges for inspiration. I loved the <a href="http://retrosketches.blogspot.com/2012/12/retrosketches-40.html">sketch at RetroSketches</a> this week, and combined it with the red and green challenge at <a href="http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2012/12/week-96-colour-challenge.html">Less is More</a>, which I've missed for the last two weeks. :( I used a Studio G sentiment that I picked up for 50 cents and stamped it in red and green. I used a patterned paper from my scrap bin for the background pieces and a tiny gem to finish it off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tZKhHR-_To/UMDaCXJofeI/AAAAAAAAKKw/v2B1WnPEQ5o/s1600/P1110360.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_tZKhHR-_To/UMDaCXJofeI/AAAAAAAAKKw/v2B1WnPEQ5o/s320/P1110360.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2CuR1vr-to0/UMDaCjGdl4I/AAAAAAAAKK4/OmBbp8oxTWg/s1600/P1110361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2CuR1vr-to0/UMDaCjGdl4I/AAAAAAAAKK4/OmBbp8oxTWg/s320/P1110361.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the same sketch to make another Christmas card in white and purple. This uses a Hero Arts dove and more paper from my scrap bin.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YQzR-6ylatU/UMDaDSUZadI/AAAAAAAAKLI/qkqBqnH3AkU/s1600/P1110365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YQzR-6ylatU/UMDaDSUZadI/AAAAAAAAKLI/qkqBqnH3AkU/s320/P1110365.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, one last red and green card using a Hero Arts ornament. This card also fits the challenge at <a href="http://addictedtocas.blogspot.com/2012/12/atcas-2.html">Addicted to CAS</a>, where the code word is bauble. I felt this card was turning out rather boring, but I didn't want to scrap it altogether. I threw a bow on it and popped up the main panel. It's a little better, although still not my favorite.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GOyUVKF_eGU/UMDaDrLLy9I/AAAAAAAAKLQ/4tHt_ygctqY/s1600/P1110370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GOyUVKF_eGU/UMDaDrLLy9I/AAAAAAAAKLQ/4tHt_ygctqY/s320/P1110370.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't often use red and green for Christmas cards. I think one reason is that I just like non-traditional Christmas cards. Another reason is that I don't have any perfect Christmas ink. For these cards I used Memento bamboo leaves for the green. On the first card I used ladybug red and the last card uses rhubarb stalk.<br />
<br />
I recently bought a large Memento ink pad in cottage ivy, thinking it would be the perfect Christmas green. I haven't made a single card with it, as it doesn't stamp well. It appears blotchy. If anyone has a recommendation for good Christmas colored inks, I'm all ears! :)<br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />
<br />
Ann <br />

<br />

<br />
I'm popping in quickly with some cards I made for the first challenge of <a href="http://addictedtocas.blogspot.com/2012/11/atcas1.html">Addicted to CAS</a>. The code word is snow, so I used an adorable Penny black snowman stamp to make some much-needed Christmas cards. I used a different color scheme for each card and paper-pieced the scarf, ear muffs, nose, and arms using scraps from my scrap box.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PtqdCHbUXfk/ULVziDr-nXI/AAAAAAAAKHc/cwSiStWYiZ8/s1600/P1110280.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PtqdCHbUXfk/ULVziDr-nXI/AAAAAAAAKHc/cwSiStWYiZ8/s320/P1110280.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
I like the non-traditional colors of this last one, but I think I would like it better if I had used the layout of the first card. It will probably be a redo!<br />

I used pearlescent poppy and pearlescent beige in place of cherry cobbler and sahara sand. Both inks have wonderful sparkle. Stamps are Penny Black Hanging Treasures. The peace sentiment is a Studio G stamp I picked up for 50 cents!<br />

I made the first for <a href="http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2012/11/one-layer-week-93-houses.html">Less is More 93</a>, where the theme is houses. I stamped this lovely Northwoods winter scenery stamp and added some very soft color with Prismacolor pencils. After masking the image, I sponged some soft blue ink on the hillsides and in the sky. A Sakura pen added some sparkle to finish it off. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S633-nCXDwQ/UKE7fI-cxSI/AAAAAAAAKCU/Tj2P0WcaA9s/s1600/P1110209-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S633-nCXDwQ/UKE7fI-cxSI/AAAAAAAAKCU/Tj2P0WcaA9s/s320/P1110209-001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
My second card is for <a href="http://simplicitybylateblossom.blogspot.com/2012/11/one-layer-wednesday-113-dark-red.html">One-Layer Wednesday 113</a> where the challenge is to use dark red, green, and yellow/gold on a one-layer card. I used Paper Smooches gently seasoned. This is my first Paper Smooches set and I love the tree combined with the polka dots. So fun!<br />

We're quite used to trick-or-treating in the rain around these parts! I found a little bit of time the other night to make a couple of cards for Less is More 91, which is a sketch challenge from Chrissie.<br />
<br />
For the first card I stamped a cheap Studio G stamp onto PTI rustic white cardstock and a piece of patterned paper from my scrap box. I paper pieced the leaves and cut the squares out before mounting them on a rustic white card base. It was a little blah, so I added some random bling. Unusual for me, but I quite like the results. The sentiment is from PTI lovely layers; I've used it quite a lot.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oLcmf6N_ivI/UJFU-iAOP2I/AAAAAAAAJ44/byfuszVicRw/s1600/P1100979.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oLcmf6N_ivI/UJFU-iAOP2I/AAAAAAAAJ44/byfuszVicRw/s320/P1100979.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eHgjYGlduWw/UJFU_0IqhMI/AAAAAAAAJ5E/odMwupEOdfo/s1600/P1100977.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eHgjYGlduWw/UJFU_0IqhMI/AAAAAAAAJ5E/odMwupEOdfo/s320/P1100977.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I rotated the sketch for my second card. I embossed Hero Arts woodland scene in clear before sponging over the top with blues and purples. I cut the scene into three divisions and mounted them on blue cardstock. The sentiment is from Penny Black.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NiRTEeP670w/UJFU-ehkVsI/AAAAAAAAJ4s/WggBtrZdsGo/s1600/P1100975.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NiRTEeP670w/UJFU-ehkVsI/AAAAAAAAJ4s/WggBtrZdsGo/s320/P1100975.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
I wanted to play along with the <a href="http://theplaydatecafe.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-play-date-cafe-celebrates-3-years.html">third anniversary challenge</a> at Play Date Cafe. The color combo was tricky and I had a hard time pinpointing the colors of flame, grape, and mulberry. I found a few that worked for me and used my favorite SU French foliage leaf. Again. I know! I love this leaf.<br />
<br />
This is also my entry for <a href="http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2012/10/week-90-theme.html">Less is More 90</a>, with the theme of autumn. I stamped a background of leaves across the main panel. I really like the unexpected pop of purple in the leaves. I hope it's not too busy for Less is More. Fingers crossed. :) Also, my white space is not white. I rarely use a colored card base, but I like it on this card.<br />

It was simple to combine orange and green with leaves to make a quick
fall card. I masked a panel and stamped my favorite leaf from SU French
Foliage, using the rock and roll technique to add a bit of green along
the leaf edges. This was a five-minute card, which doesn't happen very
often for me. :)<br />

<br />
I also decided to share one last <a href="http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2012/10/week-88-colour.html">Less is More</a>
card using silver that I didn't post yesterday. I hadn't decided if I
liked it or not, but this morning I decided that I do! :) I punched
flowers out of a shimmery silver paper to create a Christmas wreath.
I've seen a lot of wreaths made out of punched shapes lately, and I wanted to give it a try. I tried it with a sentiment, too, but prefer it without.<br />

Yesterday
morning while tromping about in the woods with my dog, I was surprised
by this lovely owl as it swooped down right in front of us. It drifted
up into a tree where it stayed long enough for some pictures.<br />

Saturday night I made several Christmas cards, but am just now getting around to posting them. For my cards, I chose to I emboss in silver on black cardstock. I had several sheets of beautiful, heavy silver cardstock and this was the perfect opportunity to use it.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm partial to the first two cards with the large tree images in silver. I left a wide silver mat around the edges and stamped my sentiment on the inside. I felt a sentiment on the outside would detract from the beauty and simplicity of the images.<br />
<br />
Thanks for visiting.<br />

I used a beautiful Penny Black stamp called day-dreams that I've had and have never used. I rarely color, but I pulled out my Prismacolor pencils that I've had for about seventeen years and gave it a go. <br />
<br />
My first card didn't photograph well. I used bright, cheerful colors on white cardstock. Normally I would have placed a strip of patterned paper along the bottom, but since this is a one-layer card I masked and sponged. I felt it needed that color at the bottom to ground the image and balance the color in the flowers. I'm thinking of adding a bit of black and white twine along the top edge of the masked area.<br />

<br />
For my second card I tried to achieve a softer look. I stamped the image in brown on kraft, colored the flowers, and sponged a little white ink around the edges. This card is most definitely a simplified CASE of <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sylvia0506/5915453160/">this beautiful card by Sylvia B.</a> <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I decided to go for a third look and masked a rectangle in the center before sponging distress ink. I flicked some water on the sponged area, and if I were to remake this card I probably wouldn't do it again. I colored the image with my pencils and added a sentiment below. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_eKqLkFK1k4/UHHPkekdQrI/AAAAAAAAJX8/ss3KBnRNl7c/s1600/P1100652-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_eKqLkFK1k4/UHHPkekdQrI/AAAAAAAAJX8/ss3KBnRNl7c/s320/P1100652-001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I was glad to get some card-making in last night and stayed up much too late, but I sure had fun. I also made several cards in silver for Less is More, which I'll be posting later.<br />

I don't have much in the way of wedding stamps, so I went through my stamps looking for general stamps that I thought I could use for a wedding card. That was kind of a fun exercise in and of itself. <br />
<br />
One of the sets I pulled out was PTI lovely layers. I was thinking of going with a classic black and white color scheme and decided to use the lovely layers dies instead of the stamps themselves. I pulled out scraps from my scrap bin and experimented with different combinations. I ended up layering black, silver, and vellum and finishing it off with a bit of bling.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dr8Hx-OOYzw/UGsCnYA-Q-I/AAAAAAAAJV0/hqa9CoYrdTE/s1600/P1100605-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dr8Hx-OOYzw/UGsCnYA-Q-I/AAAAAAAAJV0/hqa9CoYrdTE/s320/P1100605-001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jwpbnCOwWg/UGsCns5lWTI/AAAAAAAAJV8/LNZnXXz2_Bg/s1600/P1100607-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jwpbnCOwWg/UGsCns5lWTI/AAAAAAAAJV8/LNZnXXz2_Bg/s320/P1100607-001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to keep the finished card clean and simple for the challenge, but it looked too plain just adhered to a card base. I cut a circle from another piece of cardstock and popped it up on foam tape to act as a frame. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.<br />

I used SU French Foliage. I think this leaf is one of the most beautiful leaf images out there. Just sayin'.<br />
<br />
I used VersaMagic chalk inks and finished it off with a bit of matching ribbon. The main panel is popped up on foam tape. Sentiment is PTI lovely layers.<br />

For the shoe challenge, I used these baby booties, the only shoe stamps I own. I used these shoes on my youngest daughter's birth announcements seven years ago and I don't think I've used them since.<br />
<br />
The Less is More challenge is to combine three past challenges. I chose the following challenges:<br />
<br />
Week 5 : pastels<br />
Week 68: baby or child<br />
Week 12: off-center<br />
Week 34: sketch 3 also works, I think<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dGzqjIuvwN0/UGSTKWyJDWI/AAAAAAAAJUQ/NhVJjUhCiEk/s1600/P1100561.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dGzqjIuvwN0/UGSTKWyJDWI/AAAAAAAAJUQ/NhVJjUhCiEk/s320/P1100561.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-awQ77TgaIsQ/UGSTKF57QkI/AAAAAAAAJUI/I1U9ok2f-R4/s1600/P1100556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-awQ77TgaIsQ/UGSTKF57QkI/AAAAAAAAJUI/I1U9ok2f-R4/s320/P1100556.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used a Close to My Heart stamp set called argyle backgrounds to stamp the strips that hang behind the shoes. I first made this card using different colors of inks for each element. I much prefer it monochromatic, so I made one in light blue and one in lavender.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, I had a terrible time photographing these. The pastel colors look very
washed out and the baby booties <span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">don't stand out enough. They do look much better in real life. :) </span><i> </i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i><br /></i></span>
<u><span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Supplies:</i></span></u><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Paper: PTI white</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Stampes: All Night Media, Close to My Heart argyle backgrounds, PTI sentiment</i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>Ink: memento lulu lavender, VersaMagic Sea Breeze</i></span>kingstonmamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07331810012127974613noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5789502240552662435.post-50221677686380451322012-09-21T12:02:00.000-07:002012-09-21T12:02:01.741-07:00One-Layer Wednesday 106The <a href="http://cardz.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/olw-106-sponging/">One-Layer Wednesday challenge</a> this week, hosted by Heather Telford, is to make a one-layer card using sponging. I love sponging and inking, but have never used masking to create snowdrifts as Heather does on so many of her cards. Using her tutorial and CASEing any number of her cards, I gave it a whirl.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Ag3IjDGXlk/UFyzuESC0fI/AAAAAAAAJRo/JBnO32cB8vY/s1600/P1100528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6Ag3IjDGXlk/UFyzuESC0fI/AAAAAAAAJRo/JBnO32cB8vY/s320/P1100528.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
My fifth attempt (yes, fifth!) was decent, but I didn't like the sentiment I chose. I cut it down and mounted it on a white card base. Not thrilled with the second sentiment, either, but I'm calling it good!<br />
<br />
